abandoned six flags new orleans

two weeks ago, i had the privilege of visiting the abandoned six flags theme park outside new orleans. the park was closed just before katrina struck, and no one has even attempted to rehabilitate it since. six flags removed a few of the rides, but for the most part, the theme park stands as it was the day the storm hit, albeit a dilapidated, deserted, haunting shell of what it once was.

being several miles outside of new orleans proper, the huge park has a prevailing silence which only adds to the nervous feeling of never knowing what will be around the next bend. though we ran into no trouble, i can honestly say the place was both exhilarating and terrifying, and in no way safe. the city of new orleans has essentially given up on the park, and no security or police go near it. i can't recommend this location as even remotely safe, but it was thrilling to explore the ruins of a place once filled with laughter and now desolate and haunting.
