aurora is only about 20-25 minutes northwest of keller on 114. it's crazy that you can live so close to someplace this noteworthy for so long and never even hear of it.
the story goes that in 1897 a UFO crashed on private property in aurora. the people of the town then buried the pilot, described as "not of this world," in the town cemetery.
there was even a headstone in the graveyard, marked only with an engraving of the likeness of his spacecraft...unfortunately the headstone was stolen in the 1970s, but the historical marker here even mentions the controversy.
because the headstone is gone, there's no real evidence of anything alien in aurora, aside from the historical marker. the town cemetery, however, is interesting of itself. it dates back to the 1850's. the creepy thing about this particular cemetery is that most of the early graves are for children, primarily infants. there is also a Texas Revolutionary War vet buried here, and he has his own historical marker.
